Our History

The Master's Press, founded in 1976 by Charlene (Hamm) Sims, was born out of a desire to better serve clients' needs. For four years previously, Charlene had managed Saber Printing, one of the larger quick printing businesses of the time. During that time, she helped Saber quadruple sales. When new ownership of the company failed to share the same high level of dedication to service to which she had treated her customers, Charlene decided to start her own printing company. Through a series of events, Dick Brooks, the father of a friend, offered to finance the new shop and became her silent partner.

As a twenty-five year old single woman, Charlene was off and running, and The Master's Press was born.

Starting with one press, a camera and miscellaneous printing equipment, the doors were officially opened on September 22, 1976, and by February of 1977, The Master's Press was turning a profit with steady monthly sales.
Originally located on Spring Valley Road in Farmers Branch, The Master's Press faced many challenges and changing market conditions. By the time the company had outgrown its home eighteen years later, Charlene's print shop was earning over a half a million dollars in annual sales.

Through it all, the biggest ambition Charlene had for her business was to serve her customers well. Her contagious desire to do an exceptional job in quality and service was apparent throughout the business and passed on to many employees. The company grew slowly but steadily through the years, maintaining a good reputation with the customers as well as suppliers.

Dick Brooks was a good partner for many years. He taught Charlene a great deal of business savvy, held her hand and encouraged her as she learned. He was very much hands off, which helped to enhance the learning experience.
Charlene's one request was to own 100% of the company whenever she eventually got married. In April of 1988 she married Steve Sims and after negotiating, an agreement was made to buy out Dick Brooks' interest in the company, giving Charlene 100% ownership of The Master's Press.

Annual sales have increased steadily over the years since then, more than doubling since the shop moved to its present location at 14550 Midway Road in October, 1993.
